On the opening weekend of Star Wars episode VII, Carrefour created an interactive billboard that let people shop like a Jedi would.
To celebrate the cinema release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Romania, hypermarket chain Carrefour set up an interactive billboard inside its 150 stores.
The in-store billboards utilised Kinect technology to enable people to use 'The Force' and shop like a Jedi. The billboards tracked shoppers' hand movements as they browsed through various categories of products. They could wave their arm from one side to another in order to change the product selection and view a new page of items. If something caught their eye they could focus their grip toward it and move it to the shopping cart icon in the bottom right corner. This added the selected item to a virtual cart and once they were done their goods would be waiting for them to purchase in a real cart at a special cash register in the hypermarket.
